Australian Hydrographic Office Publishes New Official Mariner’s Handbook For Australian Waters
The fifth edition of what was previously called as the Seafarer’s Handbook for Australian Waters, has a new chapter added to it to that is based on interpreting the depth information accuracy in Electronic Navigational Charts.
All international and domestic commercial ships are to carry this handbook which is an official nautical publication.
All the instructions that help in planning and navigation in the Australian Waters are present in it. It also has data on the marine protected areas, pilot arrangements, shipping routes and incidents that are happening in the Torres Strait and Great Barrier Reef shipping routes.
Ship Reporting Systems, weather warnings, VHF channels, maritime security, Customs, biosecurity and key contacts for relevant government agencies are also mentioned in this handbook.
Mariner’s Handbook for Australian Waters’ paper copy can be purchased from the chart distribution agents or there is also a free digital PDF version that can be easily downloaded by the seafarers.
The updates to the digital version are made fortnightly and thus, the users are expected to be using only the latest version which has all the important Notices to Mariners.
