Fincantieri And Ponant Sign An MOU For Construction Of 2 New-Generation Cruise Ships 1

A Memorandum of Agreement has been signed by Fincantieri which is worth around 300 million euro. This is relating to the construction and design of 2 new-generation luxury expedition cruise vessels for the French cruise company PONANT, a subsidiary of Artemis Group (holding company of the Pinault family). The MoA also includes an option for one more sistership.

The contract will be finalized after the technical and financial conditions will be fulfilled.

The new vessels that are scheduled to be delivered in 2022 will showcase the positive change of the ‘PONANT EXPLORERS’ class vessels. These will be operated for ‘Paul Gauguin Cruises in South Pacific. The acquisition of these vessels will bring the number of vessels acquired by Ponant to three. Build by the group production network of Vard, it will be of about 11,000 tonnes with a capacity to accommodate 230 passengers

They will be featured with top notch technology so as to make then eco friendly. They will be equipped with extensive battery package application which will enae smokeless operation at anchor, ports and environmentally sensitive areas. This agreement has also made way for future collaborations between PONANT, Fincantieri and Vard so that they can develop many more eco friendly projects.
