The discharge of wash water from EGCS open-loop system in the Malaysian Waters has been prohibited by Malaysia.

Ships that will be calling to the Ports of Malaysia have been suggested to switch to fuel oil that is compliant or to switch to a closed-loop system before they enter Malaysian Waters and Ports.

The ship managers/owners of the Malaysian ships that have EGCS with open-loop systems installed in them are suggested to see if there are foreign ports where the discharge of wash water from an open-loop system is prohibited.
