Liner breaks free as Storm Ali hits Scotland

STORM Ali has forced a cruise ship to detach from its moorings in Scotland as the severe winds continue to batter Scotland.

The cruise ship – the Nautica – tore away from the moorings before tugs were called in action to help the cruise liner.

The incident happened in Greenock, close to Glasgow in Scotland.

About 478 passengers and 26 crew are stranded after their ship parted its mooring lines. There have been no reports of any injury.

Emergency services have requested people to take extra care of the high winds caused by Storm Ali. More than 200,000 homes are without electricity in Ireland and Northern Ireland due to the winds.
