Qatar’s SC To Charter Two Cruise Liners With MSC Cruises During FIFA World Cup 2022 1

An agreement has been signed by Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) with MSC Cruises to charter two cruise liners so as to accomplish the fans at the time of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The cruise liners have the capacity of 4,000 cabins. During the tournament, they will act as floating hotels. Berthed at Doha Port, they will give the fans a beautiful view of the West Bay skyline.

The chartering of cruise liners was a part of the accommodation strategy of Qatar because the country wants to provide sustainable solutions for the tournament which will start on the 21st of November 2022.

The SC was congratulated by his Excellency Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transports and Communications for the collaboration with MSC. He said that a good progress has been made by the country in its plan in the field of transport and communications. This will help all the guests for the FIFA World Cup and give them an exceptional experience.

Al Sulaiti said: “The Ministry of Transport and Communications has completed the development of Doha Port to accommodate multiple large passenger ships and enable the port’s capacity to receive the largest cruise ships in the world, serving fans and visitors who come to Qatar during the 2022 World Cup.”

Al Sulaiti also said that the development of standards has been completed by the Ministry so as to make the transportation system of Qatar accessible.

His Excellency Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the SC, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with MSC Cruises to deliver this unique accommodation option for fans in 2022. We are sure fans from all over the world will be excited at the prospect of staying on board a cruise ship, with a fabulous view of West Bay, and fast access to all the stadiums and fan zones.”

According to the agreement, MSC Europa and MSC Poesia will be charter by the State of Qatar. MSC Europa that is presetly being constructed in Saint-Nazaire, France is to be delivered in 2022. It will be the first LNG powered vessel of the cruise fleet of MSC and will be operated on LNG when at berth in Doha. Her air emission will be minimum because of the use of LNG. It also features advanced waste and water treatment systems along with a broad variety of cutting-edge environmental technologies for the emission of cleaner air and minimised environmental footprint.

Yasir Al Jamal, Chairman of the SC’s Host Country Operations Office and Vice Chairman of the Technical Delivery Office, said, “We are determined to deliver a range of accommodation options which will suit every taste and budget in 2022. It is important we provide sustainable solutions for the country while ensuring an unmatched fan experience.”

In 2022, shuttle buses will assist the cruise ships that will take fans to Qatar’s transport infrastructure, including Doha Metro, from where they will be able to access stadiums, fan zones and other attractions.
