ReCAAP ISC Incident Alert: Abduction Of Crew From Fishing Boat In Vicinity Waters Of Malaysia

Seven perpetrators who were wearing masks and camouflage military uniform from two pump boats that were painted green and blue with red stripes boarded the fishing boat (SN 338/4F) near the waters of Tambisan Island, Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia on the 23rd of September at 1300 hours.

Abducting three Indonesian crew members that were present on the fishing boat, they fled towards Tawi-Tawi Island in the Philippines. It is suspected that they were the members of the Kidnap for Ransom Group (KFRG) of Sulubased Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). It is reported that they were AK47, M16 (with grenade launcher) and pistols with them.

In coordination with Philippine and Malaysian authorities, the seaborne and coastal security patrol has been intensified by the Philippine Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao.
