MOL LNG-Fueled Tugboat Ishin Undergoes First LNG Bunkering Trial
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) announced about its participation in the LNG bunkering trial at the Port of Kobe which was organized by the Kobe City Port and Harbor Authority where it carried out bunkering on the LNG-fueled tugboat Ishin.
Ishin is a tugboat owned by MOL and is operated by Nihon-Tug-Boat Co.Ltd. This marked the first LNG bunkering in the Port of Kobe. The successful trial has confirmed that LNG fuel can be effectively and safely supplied at the port.
Effective from January 2020, the regulations on exhaust emission from vessels will be tightened on a global scale. With the new standards coming in there has been an increase in the number of LNG-fueled vessels that are coming into service which makes the development of LNG bunkering ports in Japan an urgent task. To promote the adoption of LNG fuel for vessels which will reduce environmental impact the MOL Group companies are working together.
